Help for Hospitals and Communities
During the trip, Hannu Haukka, Founder and CEO of GCMM, was presented with the Ukrainian Patriot's Cross by Bucha Mayor Anatolii Fedoruk in recognition of GCMM's continued humanitarian support.
This honour reflects the deep gratitude of communities in Ukraine, but the greater story is the faithfulness of those who continue to pray, give, and stand with people who are suffering because of the war.
The off-road vehicle will also help local partners reach areas where regular vehicles may not be able to travel safely or reliably, especially in difficult road conditions.
Preparing Families for Winter
Along with medical support, GCMM is also helping families prepare for the cold months ahead. Ukraine's leaders are warning that time is short.
President Zelenskyy urged Ukrainians to prepare without delay for the approaching winter:
"Ukraine has only a few weeks left before winter begins. We must ensure that families have access to essential heating, the ability to cook food, and the basic repairs needed in their homes."
— President Volodymyr Zelenskyy
Ukraine's Prime Minister Koretskyi has stated:
"The winter will be difficult. We have no other plan but to make it through this winter with dignity."
— Prime Minister Sergii Koretskyi
Russian forces are heavily targeting Ukraine's electrical infrastructure, which is impossible to fully protect from attack.
Virtually No Power Plants Left Fully Intact
Because of Russian attacks, Ukraine has virtually no thermal power plants remaining fully intact as winter approaches. Some are beyond repair.
The apparent goal is to make major cities, including the capital, Kyiv, increasingly difficult to live in—particularly during the coming winter.
In September, GCMM ordered 500 wood-burning stoves. These stoves are now being distributed to villages where both electricity and natural gas have been cut off because of the war.
A wood-burning stove can make a life-saving difference for a family. It provides warmth during freezing temperatures, a way to cook hot meals, heat water, dry clothing, and continue daily life when other forms of heating are unavailable.
According to the Kyiv Post, Ukraine's freezing and dark winter ahead demands decisive action.
Thousands more stoves are still needed as winter approaches.
Thank You for Remembering Ukraine
As the evenings grow darker and colder here in Canada, many families in Ukraine are preparing for winter with uncertainty and fear. Yet through practical help, prayer, and compassion, they are reminded that they have not been forgotten.
Thank you for standing with GCMM and UkraineAid as we continue to bring help and hope to the people of Ukraine.
